Two to three years ago, whenever Manny Paquiao fight and take home the belt on every division that he conquer, I always say to myself, “Pacman should fight Marquez, because only Marquez can beat Manny Paquiao.”
The first Paquiao vs Marquez fight went for twelve rounds and ended up with a draw, in which both fighters claimed that they won the fight. Then comes a rematch. This time, Manny won by a decision, which was contested by the Mexican Fighter. Juan Manuel Marquez insisted for a rematch and he even went to our country, the Philipines just to challenge the Pacman, who is also known now as The Pound for Pond King. (Don’t mind Mayweather who claims the title too ’cause the title that best suits him is ‘the chicken man’ for always ducking Manny Pacquiao.)
The heat is on! Manny Paquiao will face Juan Manuel Marquez, his toughest opponent once again. Juan Manuel Marquez finally has his chance on his most awaited revenge on Pacman. It will be on Saturday night at the MGM Grand Hotel, Las Vegas.
Does Juan Manuel Marquez has a chance of defeating Manny Paquiao?
Marquez is a smart fighter, he may have a chance but only a little, and when I say little, I mean little. (hahaha!) Please forgive me for being biased here because I know Manny Pacquiao is now better than before.
Yes, I did say that I believe Marquez can defeat Paquiao on the first part of this post right? “Three years ago.”
Within those years, here’s what Manny Pacquiao has turned into, a face-destroying monster.
Don’t get bitter if you are a die hard Marquez fan. ESPN posted this ‘blah..blah..blah’ on their site: 5 reasons Marquez will beat Pacquiao, and I like and agree a bit with the fifth reason in the list.
5. Both in the course of his fights and during his career in general, Marquez has shown a penchant for slow, steady improvement. He took his time in becoming a world-class fighter, and after he achieved it, he continued to give away the advantage to his opponents in the first half of fights, only to end up turning up the heat late to claim victory. He has become quite proficient at this fourth-quarter style of fighting (as evidenced against Juan Diaz), but too often this tactic manifests as a disadvantage. If Marquez could make this strategy work, coaxing Pacquiao into wearing himself down by throwing more punches early in the fight and eventually losing steam, then coming on strong at the end, he might have a better chance of closing the show and clinching a points win. In each of the two previous Pacquiao fights, Marquez won the last two rounds on every scorecard. If he can stretch that advantage another few rounds, maybe he can change history this time around.
